Will's early notes on this coffee were "What the?" and "SO SWEET!" So that ought to give you some idea of what you're getting into here with Daniela Gutierrez's semi-washed (aka honey process) field blend from her farm La Montaña in the San Marcos subregion of Tarrazú, Costa Rica. We cupped a whole table full of Costas back in late spring last year and while they were all great, this one was easily the sweetest one on the table. When this arrived stateside in the summer, we stuck all 20 bags in the freezer because we knew how great this would taste when the weather outside was frightful. Daniela's harvest was a bit of a struggle this past season, not only because of the pandemic issues facing most coffee growers, but also because late, heavy rains knocked off some of the ripening fruit resulting in lower yields overall. But the coffee she was able to process on her farm's wet mill was just fantastic. It's almost beyond comprehension that we'll be tasting fresh crop offers soon, but that just means we've got a few spots on our menu later this year for more of Daniela's delicous coffees.
